Narrative tournament

The Tournament

A more casual take on the usual format — focused on the experience, and on a pressure-free atmosphere. All skill levels welcome.

What's a narrative tournament?

The in-game rules are the same as a traditional 40k game. What changes is everything around it: a governing narrative that carries you through different dynamics and mechanics across your games. Random events happen. The pace shifts. Twists strike. It might not benefit you. It might have dire consequences. But if the gods favour you, it might be exactly what you need to be remembered in legends.

What you need

  • 2000 points, battle-forged, all official detachment and army rules
  • A painted army is not mandatory
  • No list submitted in advance
  • Bring a copy of your list for your opponent

Format and mechanics

Tournament Schedule

Four games across two days, and a war against the Blackfrost itself.

Schedule

  • Saturday — 9:00–12:30, then 13:30–17:00
  • Sunday — 9:00–12:30, then 13:30–17:00

Scoring

WTC scoring, 20-0. There will be special ways to gain score, explained before your games. Scoresheets are provided.

The Fenrisian Market

The villagers are here to help. Ask favours of the Runemaster, the Warmaster and the Forgemaster, and spend them when a game turns against you. Lose a game and you gain two favours. Win and you gain one. More can be earned through missions.

The Blackfrost

The shard stands at the centre of the battlefield, and the corruption grows outward from it as the weekend goes on.

The story so far

The Saga

Each year the Blackfrost rolls over Fenris, birthing horrors and madness.

The first tournament

The Council forged the Blackshields to stand the line and defend the village. Their most prized weapon: the Black Shard, an artifact that carves a protective sanctuary from the dark. When the shard’s weight began to break Captain Varek, he declared the First Blackshield Tournament — trials of strength, leadership, courage and wisdom. Alliances formed and betrayal struck. At sundown on the second day, a champion stood above all.
